Emergency repairs have been completed on a major Nottinghamshire road, which was compared to a “lunar landscape”.
Part of the A612 Colwick Loop Road was resurfaced by Nottinghamshire County Council as part of a £2 million emergency repair fund.
The road, which connects Colwick and Gedling, was one of 40 pothole hot spots identified by the Reform-led authority, which recently announced a record-breaking £122.5m will be invested into the county’s highways in the upcoming year.
The funding includes £51 million of capital programmes on a range of preventative and restorative roadworks.
Council leader Mick Barton described Colwick Loop Road as a “lunar landscape” during a recent interview with Nottinghamshire Live, in which he named the worst 10 roads for potholes in the county.
“The actual road had totally broken up. It was damaging cars so we knew something needed to be done. We did it and it’s fantastic,” he said.
“I drive down there most days and [workers] have done a magnificent job. There are some other bits on that road that need doing but when that’s finished, we’ll be looking at a surface dressing programme [sealing the road surface against water damage], maybe next year.”
