A market which gives local traders the chance to shine has taken over the heart of Nottingham.

The annual Ay-Up Market, a hotbed of homegrown creativity, is back for three days with food and drink, crafts, homewares, jewellery and plants in Old Market Square and Smithy Row, from Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29.

Some of the 90 traders are there for the duration, others just for a day.

Stalls include Jess Bright Design which is selling a selection of greeting cards, notepads and her Ay Up Nottingham City of Rebels print. The 37-year-old freelance graphic designer had a stall last year.

“I like that it celebrates Nottingham creatives and its super inclusive. There’s a good mix of stuff and they put on a lot of free things for everyone,” said Jess, who also attended the Christmas market.

“They’re always really good and really well organised. I love being part of them.”

When visitors get hungry there’s plenty of food options to choose from including well-known Nottingham names Bombay Deli (look out for the larger-than-life samosa mascot), the Bagel Project, Dirty Chicken and Beeston Brownie.

Shoppers have the chance to stock up on some tasty treats for home from Batchhouse Bakery, Mochi Donuts, Gee and Gee’s sauces and oils and Sacred Ape rum.

The bar, run by Blue Monkey Brewery, has seating undercover — a wise precaution because the weather forecast isn’t very promising — and a stage with live music throughout the weekend.

Entertainment for young visitors includes hook-a-duck and family craft sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

The market is open until 6pm today (Friday, March 27), tomorrow 11am to 6pm, and Sunday 10am to 5pm.
