Valdo Calocane attack: PC testifies at Nottingham inquiry

Published on

The Nottingham Inquiry received testimony from PC Barnaby Pritchard, who was assaulted by Valdo Calocane in 2021 prior to the perpetrator’s fatal attack. Students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both aged 19, along with 65-year-old grandfather Ian Coates, lost their lives when Calocane attacked them with a knife on June 13, 2023. The offender subsequently used Mr Coates’ van to strike three additional individuals. The inquiry, led by a judge, took testimony from five Nottinghamshire Police officers on Wednesday, including PC Pritchard, who was attacked by the individual suffering from paranoid schizophrenia in September 2021. A warrant had been issued for Calocane’s arrest due to his failure to appear in court regarding this assault when he carried out his violent attack. Earlier that week, on Tuesday, the inquiry heard from Calocane’s former roommate Sebastian, who had been compelled to vacate student housing because of Calocane’s conduct in 2021. Sebastian subsequently became the target of Calocane’s stalking on two occasions during 2022. Officers from the Metropolitan Police provided testimony regarding Calocane’s strange appearance at MI5’s London headquarters in May 2021, where he pressed the intercom requesting that authorities take him into custody. The inquiry also looked into the effects of Calocane’s actions on residents at Brook Court in Radford, where he attempted to force his way into units, resulting in one young woman escaping through her window and suffering a spinal fracture.
