The public inquiry into the Nottingham killings has been told that officials discussed granting immunity to Nottinghamshire Police employees who improperly viewed case files. Approximately 200 officers from Nottinghamshire Police examined records connected to Valdo Calocane’s murders without proper authorization. Calocane murdered Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates during the early morning hours of June 13, 2023. The official investigation into the incident is currently in week seven. On Tuesday (April 14), the inquiry focused on unauthorized access to case-related materials by employees of Nottinghamshire Police, the prison and probation service, and the courts and tribunals service. The families of Calocane’s victims and the three individuals who survived his attack have raised serious concerns about individuals viewing CCTV recordings and medical documentation without permission. Former Special Constable Ilsading Skenderaj viewed footage of Barnaby and Grace being placed into body bags from his residence. He has since been prohibited from serving as a police officer. Nottinghamshire Police has only recently committed to conducting a thorough review of officers who accessed CCTV footage without valid justification, prompted by a public complaint submitted in March 2026. Testifying witnesses represented Nottinghamshire Police, the Ministry of Justice, and the College of Policing. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is scheduled to provide testimony on Wednesday.
