Nottingham Victoria Centre faces fresh store closure as M&S relocation speculation grows

Signs have been posted indicating another retailer will be departing from Nottingham’s Victoria Centre as speculation continues that M&S is preparing to take up residence.

A store at the shopping complex has shut its doors as unverified reports persist that the clothing and food retailer is set to arrive.

An additional establishment at Nottingham’s Victoria Centre has ceased trading while speculation swirls that Marks and Spencer could be arriving at the site.

The upper level of the retail complex near the former House of Fraser premises now stands vacant, with all businesses having moved away supposedly to make an impression on the purported incoming tenant.

Since the department store shut its doors in October 2025, surrounding outlets have been shutting down and relocating throughout the centre progressively.

The Nottingham Post has learned these companies were requested by the centre’s management to shift locations to accommodate a new retailer, which widespread speculation suggests is M&S.

Both parties have declined to verify any upcoming plans for the vacant area, though Victoria Centre officials have recently stated they anticipate revealing new arrivals shortly.

Menkind and Yankee Candle have migrated a short distance further into the centre, whereas Damaged Society has relocated to a unit directly across from its previous location.

Other businesses, including CeX and Rebel Menswear, have departed the centre entirely, with the latter reportedly seeking fresh premises in the urban area.

Now, neighbouring Danish homeware retailer Søstrene Grene has become the most recent enterprise in this portion of the centre to declare it will be shutting down.

Notices displayed at the outlet, positioned opposite the former House of Fraser entrance, indicate it will cease operations on September 13.

The notices state that regrettably this establishment will be shutting down as the property owner intends to redevelop the premises. The notices add that trading will continue until Sunday, 13 September 2026, and until that time customers are welcome. The notices also warn that as preparations for the closure are underway, certain products may no longer be accessible in-store and numerous items will be discounted.

It is believed M&S will occupy the former House of Fraser location at the Victoria Centre.

The notices further indicate the company expresses gratitude to all patrons for their patronage throughout the years.

The announcement of this closure follows just days after an employee at one of the shops in this section of the centre informed the Nottingham Post that businesses were allegedly being requested to move in an effort to make an impression on M&S.

Søstrene Grene established itself at the centre in June 2016 and is recognised for offering Nordic-inspired household furnishings, paper goods, arts and crafts materials, cookware, and celebration items.

The Caffè Rizzoli café and dining venue, which had been situated near House of Fraser since 2017, also appears to have ceased trading in recent months.

Before House of Fraser’s closure, there had been earlier speculation that M&S was keen on acquiring the Victoria Centre Market space.

Market traders reported having observed M&S employees taking measurements within that area, though the company appears to have subsequently lost enthusiasm for that concept.

The Victoria Centre has repeatedly refused to elaborate on speculation regarding M&S occupying the former House of Fraser unit.

A representative commented that significant activity is occurring at Victoria Centre, with extensive development projects and upgrades underway throughout the centre to guarantee the maintenance of an optimal shopping environment for visitors. The representative added that they are consistently striving to update the retail mix with fresh and appealing merchants.
