The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has upgraded its health alert for the East Midlands to amber status.
Nottinghamshire had originally received a yellow alert, but this has now been elevated to amber. The warning will be in effect from 9am on Wednesday July 29 through to 9am on Thursday July 30.
According to Met Office predictions, Nottingham can expect 30C temperatures on Wednesday with an overnight minimum of 19C as Thursday arrives.
The UKHSA indicated that vulnerable individuals may put additional strain on health services as a result.
There is also potential for increased danger to the wellbeing of at-risk populations and the possibility of indoor spaces heating up considerably.
The agency noted that substantial consequences are anticipated for health and social care providers because of the extreme heat, including elevated mortality rates, especially among those over 65 or individuals with underlying health issues.
Younger demographics could also be affected.
The UKHSA assigned the alert a rating of 12, signifying a moderate probability of moderate-level consequences occurring.
The Met Office stated that conditions will stay mostly dry over the next few days with abundant sunshine. It will feel very warm, with temperatures climbing higher and becoming locally hot by Wednesday. Conditions will turn cooler and more changeable from Thursday onwards.
