A parent from Nottinghamshire believes she has uncovered what she describes as the most overlooked destination in the Midlands, and her entire outing set her back just £5.
The recreational space forms part of a historic estate dating back to the 1800s, situated in the heart of the county.
Leanne and her son Covey enjoyed a complete day of activities after paying only for parking, according to her social media documentation of the excursion. She expressed surprise that the location remains relatively unknown to most people, noting the presence of scenic walking paths and a recently updated playground designed for younger visitors.
The shallow stream where children could wade and play proved to be the standout feature for the pair. She mentioned numerous covered areas perfect for picnics and confirmed that an ice cream van was on hand, which they naturally visited. She also highlighted the café with its supplementary play zone and a nautical-themed search activity before concluding that this was certainly somewhere they intended to revisit throughout the summer season.
The destination in question is Thoresby Park, located close to Ollerton and Newark in the centre of the county.
According to the official Nottinghamshire tourism platform, the park offers something for visitors throughout the year with numerous attractions suitable for all ages. The grounds span more than 1000 acres of pristine English landscape, featuring various amenities and activities available to guests at any time of year. The platform suggests the venue caters to those wishing to appreciate the natural beauty, explore the Gallery, host weddings or special celebrations, or attend outdoor events. The Victorian Courtyard area houses working artisans, retail establishments, a licensed dining venue and café, a military museum, and the well-regarded Gallery showcasing work from regional, national and international creators.
Responding to the original video, viewers shared their thoughts. One resident mentioned living nearby and praised the location, adding that the organized events were also worth experiencing. Another confessed they had never heard of the site but planned to visit. A third individual stated they had switched from visiting Clumber Park to this venue, describing it as quieter with more affordable parking and a charming café. A fourth social media user inquired about pet access, with the establishment permitting dogs within the park grounds while only guide dogs may accompany visitors throughout the entire site.
Thoresby Park welcomes visitors every day between 9am and 5pm.
