Steven Sunderland is back behind bars
A Nottingham man with a long list of previous convictions is back behind bars after a high-speed pursuit through Hyson Green.
Steven Sunderland was driving an orange Mini Cooper when he sped away from officers near Forest Recreation Ground at around 1am on Tuesday, July 28.
He went on to hit speeds of approximately 75mph along Gregory Boulevard – where 20mph and 30mph limits are in place – in an attempt to escape from police.
Police dashcam footage captured the car travelling through a junction on the wrong side of the road, before it was stopped near Bobbers Mill Bridge by a Stinger.
Sunderland was arrested at the scene, and the 36-year-old of Hazelwood Road, Bobbers Mill, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on July 29.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop when required by a constable, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The court heard he was a career criminal with 28 convictions for 96 offences.
Sunderland was last released from prison in 2025 with strict licensing conditions, having previously been convicted of burglary and motoring offences.
Steven Sutherland will be sentenced later in the year
As a result of his guilty pleas in relation to the pursuit through Hyson Green, he was recalled to prison.
He will be sentenced later this year.
PC Paul Pugsley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an appalling display of driving that put people’s lives in danger.
“Thanks to the professionalism and training of all the officers and control room staff involved, the vehicle was brought to a safe stop.
“I am pleased Sunderland has swiftly admitted to a number of offences, including dangerous driving, and is now waiting to learn his fate.
