Fresh injury concern emerges at Leeds with player update ahead of Forest opener

Leeds United are facing fresh fitness concerns ahead of their Premier League curtain-raiser against Nottingham Forest.

Forest welcome Leeds to the City Ground on August 22 for the opening game of the campaign.

defender Gabriel Gudmundsson sustained a suspected hamstring injury during Leeds’ most recent pre-season encounter with Liverpool in Chicago.

The left-back departed after 36 minutes, going down while clutching the rear of his leg.

Although he managed to walk from the pitch, he appeared to be in pain.

Gudmundsson will now undergo medical assessment on the problem, having acknowledged he suspects the issue relates to his hamstring.

When Sportbladet questioned whether the problem involved the muscle at the back of his thigh, Gudmundsson replied: Yes, it felt like that.

Regarding the extent of the problem, he stated: It was a little feeling, so we’ll see. I don’t want to go into it, I don’t have an answer for that now. We’ll see. I don’t know. We’ll see what the result is.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke is also monitoring centre-back Jaka Bijol cautiously, with the player absent for all three of the club’s American warm-up matches due to a knee problem. He is anticipated to resume training shortly.

Ilia Gruev continues his recovery from a meniscus knee injury sustained in April, while Lucas Perri sat out the previous two matches in the United States with an undisclosed complaint believed to be minor.
