A building firm involved in a significant Nottingham urban renewal scheme has entered administration and dismissed most of its workforce.
Torsion Construction Limited, which had recently commenced work on transforming Nottingham’s former central police station and Guildhall complex, had administrators appointed on July 29.
Joint administrators James Clark and Howard Smith from Interpath confirmed the Leeds-headquartered company had stopped operating and terminated the majority of its 115 employees.
Nevertheless, Torsion Construction’s parent company stated it anticipated no setback to the delayed scheme to repurpose the historic Shakespeare Street police headquarters into 246 student apartments and erect an 18-storey residential building containing 364 additional beds behind it.
A representative for Torsion Group commented that the Guildhall initiative in Nottingham was not anticipated to experience delays stemming from this procedure.
The group is coordinating with its financial backers to engage a replacement builder and maintain progress on the scheme.
The company, which remains operational, indicated it would share information regarding upcoming developments with the schemes.
Torsion Construction had served as the primary contractor at the Guildhall and police station location, though the sole remaining personnel are now assisting the joint administrators with the shutdown.
Mr Clark, a joint administrator and managing director at Interpath, noted that company directors had investigated possibilities for obtaining extra capital but were unable to identify a workable path.
Mr Clark stated that Torsion Construction encountered numerous severe difficulties that have impacted leadership across the entire industry.
Despite attempts to find a workable solution and shield clients from those pressures, the company’s finances were exhausted. Torsion Construction regrettably could not sustain operations and had no choice but to cease activities.
