The defendant, who is being tried at Nottingham Crown Court, denies the allegation
A 13-year-old schoolgirl has described to a jury how she felt terrified and was attempting to remain calm while being sexually assaulted by an asylum seeker in woodland in Nottingham.
The girl told the court that Abdul Khan removed her school trousers and underwear before engaging in non-consensual sexual intercourse with her.
In her testimony at Nottingham Crown Court, the alleged victim stated that following the incident she returned to her residence and sent a message to a friend saying she had been raped.
She further explained that she subsequently disclosed what she alleges occurred to her father, leading to police involvement.
Khan, aged 28 and with no fixed address, faces multiple charges including rape, sexual activity with a child, perverting the course of justice and meeting a child following grooming.
He has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
During a video-recorded police interview shown to the court as evidence, the schoolgirl was invited to provide a detailed account of the events.
She stated: I am here because I met up with a man called Abs and before that we were chatting for about a week. He was being really sexual and he manipulated me into sending nudes to him. When I did meet up with him he raped me.
The alleged victim, who is legally protected from identification, explained that she and Khan connected after he sent her a message on Snapchat claiming to be 14 years old.
She indicated they arranged to meet at a tram stop in Clifton and proceeded to walk to one of her acquaintances’ residences, during which he kissed her.
The teenager stated that after spending approximately 10 or 15 minutes at her friend’s property, they boarded a tram to Southchurch Drive tram stop before walking to Scout Wood nature reserve near Farnborough Spencer Academy off Farnborough Road.
She stated: He unbuttoned my trousers and started to kiss me and put me on the floor, I was frightened. I was trying not to panic. He literally told me to get on the floor.
When questioned about what happened to her underwear, she responded: He took them off.
Prosecutor Kevin Jones, during his opening remarks at the trial, told the court the sexual assault allegedly took place on May 14 last year.
He informed the jury comprising four women and eight men: They met at the Summerwood Lane tram stop and she was somewhat surprised at his appearance as he did not appear to be the person in the photos.
Mr Jones indicated that following the alleged rape, samples were taken from the teenager’s school trousers, analysed and revealed a DNA correspondence to Khan.
He stated: Mr Khan was arrested by Derbyshire police on an unconnected matter and his phone was recovered. That matter involved sexual communication with a child dating from April 21, 2025 where he was sending sexualised Snapchat messages with a child, which he has admitted. His phone was examined and displayed messages had been exchanged between the defendant and the Clifton victim.
He stated Khan claimed to have arrived in the UK concealed in a lorry in 2015 and provided a birthdate of December 26, 2004 in an asylum application. During questioning under caution, he claimed he was approaching 16 years old and had never engaged in sexual intercourse.
The trial is ongoing.
