Drivers can celebrate following confirmation that one of Nottingham’s most heavily traveled corridors has reopened to two-way traffic.

The A52 Derby Road has reopened after 12 months of restrictions between the QMC and Priory roundabouts, though some nighttime closures will persist.

The roadway became accessible to drivers on Saturday, with Nottingham City Transport confirming that certain routes will revert to their standard paths.

The road will accommodate all vehicles during daytime hours on weekdays and weekends, but will be shut down from 8pm until 6am each night, running from Tuesday through Saturday.

Regarding the affected bus services, an NCT representative stated that Orange 35/B and 36 heading toward Bulwell or Chilwell will service QMC as usual, then proceed left onto Clifton Boulevard, right onto Beeston Road, onto University Boulevard, where Orange 36 will turn left into Broadgate and Orange 35 directly onto Woodside Road.

Orange 35 toward the City will follow the typical route to Priory Island. Vehicles will then continue straight onto Woodside Road, onto University Boulevard and Beeston Road.

Vehicles will then turn left onto Clifton Boulevard, right onto Derby Road and follow the standard route from the QMC Main Entrance.

Orange 36 toward the City will follow the normal route to Broadgate, where vehicles will then turn right onto University Boulevard and Beeston Road.

Vehicles will then turn left onto Clifton Boulevard, right onto Derby Road and follow the normal route from the QMC Main Entrance.Passengers seeking to travel to the City on Woodside Road should cross over to catch the diverted 35, or use Broadgate.

It forms part of a significant upgrade project that commenced in May 2025 and will conclude in June.

The enhancements began as the A52 section between the Priory and QMC roundabouts was determined to be reaching the end of its functional lifespan, while also being the site of several incidents involving walkers and cyclists.

The construction includes road surface replacement, drainage improvements, lighting enhancements, and updated road markings.
