Birds Bakery has reopened its ‘flagship’ Nottingham shop after a two-week overhaul.
The familiar burgundy colour scheme that the store opened with in 2019 has been replaced by shades of fresh spring green and teal.
The shop, on the corner of Lister Gate and Castle Gate, has been designed to cater for busy office workers and city centre shoppers with a strong emphasis on grab-and-go options.
An improved seating area, with tables and chairs for 10 people, replaces the bench along the window so customers can still enjoy their treats in-store.
Fans of the popular bakery can also enjoy an alfresco sausage roll or cake with barista-style coffee thanks to new tables outside the shop.
All the usual filled cobs and sandwiches, hot roast pork cobs and cream cakes, delivered fresh each morning, are on sale but the shop no longer stocks loaves of bread.
Marketing manager, Harriet Boyles, said: “We have done a total refit of the store. We have updated the seating, whereas before we had the bench seating which made the shop feel quite dark and closed.
“The focus is more on grab-and-go convenience with sandwiches, hot plates, slices and traditional cream cakes.
“It’s been great to welcome back customers this morning for their sausage and bacon cobs and they’ve been happy to see us back open. It’s been fantastic. We’ve seen lots of people through the door.”
The first 50 customers received a free coffee to celebrate the reopening on Thursday, April 30.
Although customers can no longer buy loaves, large dinner rolls and some of the sandwich cobs continue to be sold. Bread can still be picked up at the Victoria Centre shop.
The next shop to be refurbished has yet to be decided, but the company will soon be opening its second branch in Loughborough.
