Nottinghamshire set for 34C as heatwave makes comeback next week

Published on

Meteorologists are warning that after yet another intensely hot day, forecast models point to a rapid resurgence of sweltering conditions, with much of England bracing for temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.

Nottinghamshire looks set to be among the areas experiencing the most extreme heat in the coming week, according to fresh weather projections that indicate mercury levels could peak at 34C.

Following Monday’s oppressive conditions (August 3), medium-range forecasting tools suggest the heatwave will swiftly rebuild, raising the possibility of another prolonged period of above-30C temperatures across most of England.

The national weather service is predicting the Midlands will see thermometers hit 32C today, while the capital may climb to 34C. Northern and western areas will remain considerably cooler, with Belfast and Glasgow both expected to reach just 21C.

Turning to the outlook further ahead, the newest GFS simulation indicates temperatures will start rising again from Wednesday, August 12. The information shows western England could see 33C, Wales 32C, and even Yorkshire as far north as 31C, according to The Mirror.

By Thursday, August 13, the simulation depicts temperatures reaching 34C across extensive stretches of eastern, central and southern England, with the majority of England and Wales anticipated to exceed 30C once more.

The warm spell may extend through Friday and Saturday, with certain localities potentially touching 34C on both days.

Charts displaying temperature deviations for the following week also reveal most of England and Wales coloured in deep red, signifying temperatures substantially above what is typical for the season.

The GFS simulation places Nottinghamshire among 15 English counties facing potential temperatures of 34C or more in the coming week. The complete roster comprises Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Kent, Essex and Gloucestershire.

While the forecasting tool signals another heatwave, the national weather service indicates temperatures will stay above typical values without quite matching the extraordinary levels recorded during earlier summer heat events. Experts have also cautioned that thunderstorms could strike southern regions of the country.

In its extended prediction, the national weather service stated that moving toward mid-August, high pressure may establish itself more firmly over the northern part of the country, with lower pressure centred further south.

This positioning raises the likelihood of Atlantic weather fronts or thundery outbreaks influencing southern districts, certainly when contrasted with recent weeks, though precipitation totals might prove patchy with some localities receiving modest rainfall.

For the most part, temperatures are anticipated to stay above average, especially in southern regions, though perhaps lacking the extraordinary heat experienced in recent weeks.
