A major Nottingham car park is closing in just over 24 hours after attempts to continue the operations of the “loss-making” site failed. It has been confirmed that the NCP site off Huntingdon Street will close at 11.59pm on Thursday (April 30) as the administration process of the national car parking firm continues. NCP first entered administration on March 16 due to a combination of factors including high debt and a reduced demand for city centre parking after the coronavirus pandemic. PwC is managing the administration process and confirmed that an initial 20 sites would close, with no Nottingham sites included in the initial batch. A further four site closures were then announced for April 16 and again, no Nottingham sites were included on that occasion. In its latest update, PwC said a further five NCP car parks would close, including the Huntingdon Street site. In its announcement, PwC said: “Since our appointment, the company has continued to trade as normal while undertaking an assessment of the options for the business. “Following the closure of a number of commercially unviable sites on 27 March 2026 and 16 April 2026, it has not been possible to reach agreements to enable the continued operation of a further five loss-making sites, and as a result the following car parks will close.” The Huntingdon Street site is one of the smaller NCP car parks in Nottingham, with 152 spaces compared to the biggest site on Mount Street, which has 455 spaces. Nottingham has eight NCP car parks overall, including the site on Maid Marian Way which will soon be demolished as part of the redevelopment of the Broad Marsh , though an exact demolition date has not yet been confirmed. Ian Taylor, from the Alliance of British Drivers campaign group, said: “The demand for car parking is there, surely there must be somebody who is able to meet it without going broke. “We understand that NCP is a private company and it cannot simply go on making a loss, but the council now has a duty. “Councils do have a duty to make sure there is something like an adequate supply of car parking spaces and that they are affordable. “I understand the council want to encourage more people to use their buses and trams and we are in favour of people having choice, but that choice also has to include car parking.” Nottingham City Council has been contacted for comment.
