Bramcote-based Foxwood Academy has received planning permission for a new £25 million specialist school to be constructed west of Nottingham.
Broxtowe Borough Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead on Wednesday for the academy’s expansion onto land previously occupied by a secondary school on Derby Road. The proposal was first revealed in 2025.
The institution currently caters for approximately 110 children aged four to 18 with special educational needs and disabilities. The White Hills Park Trust Ltd, which operates the academy, can now proceed with significantly enlarging the facility.
The forthcoming X-shaped development, to be known as Foxwood 2, will occupy the former Bramcote Secondary School premises and function as a secondary-only institution accommodating 150 students.
The existing Foxwood Academy site will subsequently operate exclusively as a primary school. The scheme will effectively more than double overall provision capacity, addressing the growing demand for specialised educational facilities.
The former Bramcote school site suffered a suspected arson incident in 2021 and has sat empty since demolition work removed the original structures.
The innovative X-shaped design symbolises progression throughout the educational journey, with separate building sections allocated to specific key stages and ability pathways.
The key stage three section will connect to the original Foxwood Academy site, while the key stage four and five accommodation will link with Bramcote College.
Approximately 60 employees currently work at the site, which lies close to Bramcote Leisure Centre.
