A career shoplifter has received a 31-week prison sentence after continuously stealing from a retail outlet he was prohibited from entering. Mark Diuk, aged 38, violated the terms of his court-ordered exclusion from Heron Foods located on Southchurch Drive on three separate instances by entering the premises on March 2, 12, and 15 to commit theft. Diuk, who lacks a permanent residence, additionally stole merchandise from a Tesco store in Compton Acres and a Co-op location on Farnborough Road in Clifton throughout March. On multiple occasions, he entered these retail establishments and loaded a bag with cheese blocks and various other products. The defendant admitted guilt to 13 counts of shoplifting and three violations of a criminal behaviour order. At his court appearance before Nottingham Magistrates Court on March 27, Friday, he was sentenced to 31 weeks incarceration and informed that officials would reach out regarding rehabilitation programs aimed at breaking his pattern of criminal conduct. Police Constable Jane Gibson, serving with the Clifton neighbourhood policing team, stated: “Offenders with extensive records are afforded numerous chances to reform their lives through rehabilitation initiatives. Nevertheless, should they reject these opportunities and persist in criminal activity, we will continue apprehending them and bringing them before the judicial system. Diuk, alongside many of our most persistent shoplifters, operates under a Criminal Behaviour Order that prohibits him from a specific store he has frequently victimized. Simply crossing the threshold constitutes a serious violation that courts view extremely unfavorably. These orders and our rigorous enforcement against shoplifters are designed to safeguard hardworking employees and businesses from the damage they inflict.
