Police are appealing for information from a potential important witness following the incident.
The 83-year-old victim, named as David Colton, was known for his support of charitable organisations. He passed away following a collision between two cars on Coxmoor Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Thursday, February 19.
Emergency responders arrived at the location shortly after 2.15pm. Mr Colton, who was operating one of the vehicles, succumbed to his injuries the following day while his family were present.
A 34-year-old individual was taken into custody at the location on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.
Investigating officers have already interviewed multiple people who witnessed the event and are now seeking to speak with the operator of a dark-coloured five-door vehicle who may possess significant information regarding the incident.
Detective Constable Christopher Taylor stated: “Our investigations continue as we piece together the events leading up to this collision, and our condolences go out to Mr Colton’s family and loved ones.
We have already gathered accounts from several witnesses at the scene, and we are now looking to speak with the driver of the vehicle shown in this CCTV footage.
We understand this individual stopped at the scene briefly but departed before providing a statement.
If this is you, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. You are not suspected of any offence, but we believe you may hold important evidence that could help our investigation.”
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the police on 101, referencing incident 323 of 19 February 2026.
