The Salutation pub in Keyworth will shut its doors once more after being trading for merely seven months, with the operators announcing their departure with considerable sadness.
Fearghal and Ryan informed local residents through a Facebook message on Sunday, July 26, that the establishment would be temporarily ceasing operations.
The pair, who had been managing the venue since December when the previous management departed, expressed gratitude towards the patrons they had served and indicated satisfaction with their accomplishments, though they cited professional and personal circumstances for their decision to step down.
In their announcement, they indicated it was with profound regret they were forced to confirm the temporary shutdown of the establishment.
They noted that since arriving in December, spending time with numerous community members had been a privilege and they took considerable pride in the progress made during their tenure.
Fearghal indicated that his choice to conclude what he called a remarkable opportunity was driven by career considerations and should not be interpreted as any criticism of the establishment or its regulars.
He expressed strong confidence regarding the pub’s future prospects.
Ryan, who had overseen the village pub’s day-to-day operations, acknowledged that whilst he had found the work stimulating, it had demanded significant effort.
He explained that whilst he would have been delighted to maintain operations until a more permanent proprietor could assume control, circumstances had compelled him to focus on his wellbeing and connections with loved ones, many of whom he had not visited since April.
He noted that managing the Salutation had been a genuine pleasure, describing it as a venue that holds significant meaning for numerous locals, and expressing hope that the establishment would thrive under new long-term management.
The venue most recently ceased trading in December 2025 following the withdrawal of family business New Country Inns, which had operated the premises from May that year, citing insufficient customer numbers as the reason.
The Salutation, recognised as the oldest drinking establishment in Keyworth with origins dating to approximately 1675, resumed trading after a year-long shutdown and a £275,000 renovation project carried out by Star Pubs in 2023.
