After nearly two decades, the festival has come to an end

It was a bittersweet day for thousands of music fans attending the last-ever Splendour Festival in Wollaton Park.
After 18 years of pop, rock, indie, R&B, soul, folk and dance and much, much more, the two-day event drew to an emotional close with Sunday night headliners Snow Patrol.
“There’s no band we’d rather soundtrack that final chapter than Snow Patrol. Few bands have captured emotion quite like they have, and there couldn’t be a more fitting soundtrack to our final ever weekend,” said the organisers.
Earlier in the day, the crowd basked in the sun to performances from Craig David, Editors, the Pigeon Detectives and Nottingham’s very own Alt Blk Era.
DHP Family, which has organised the annual event in conjunction with Nottingham City Council, blamed its demise on sharply rising costs at the same time as household budgets have been put under immense strain.
Held in the park with Wollaton Hall as a backdrop since 2008, the festival regularly attracted up to 25,000 people. In 2022, after being halted by the Covid pandemic, it was expanded into a two-day event.
George Akins, managing director of DHP Family, said: “After a lot of careful thought, we feel the right thing to do is to make this year a proper celebration of everything Splendour has meant to Nottingham and give it the send-off it deserves.”
