A teenager is set to face court proceedings after officers confiscated a machete in the centre of Nottingham.
The weapon was taken into possession by police on the afternoon of Thursday, July 9, in the Long Row area.
The 14-year-old, whose identity is protected due to his age, faces a charge of possessing a bladed weapon in a public location.
He has been released on bail with conditions prohibiting him from entering Nottingham city centre and is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Youth Court on July 20.
Sergeant Cai Kemish, representing Nottinghamshire Police, stated that such weapons have no place in Nottingham, nor do individuals willing to carry them who endanger themselves and others.
His message to those who carry knives or are considering doing so is unambiguous – they will be arrested and charged.
Every knife seized represents one fewer dangerous implement that could be used to inflict serious injuries or potentially cost someone their life.
Collective action is essential in the fight against knife crime, and members of the public with any knowledge of such offences in their area are encouraged to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or dial 999 in emergency situations.
