Nottingham recruits 40 youth workers with 18 degree apprenticeships

Published on

Nottingham City Council has announced plans to expand its youth services workforce with the appointment of 40 additional youth workers.

The recruitment initiative includes 18 apprenticeship positions that will provide fully-funded degree qualifications in Youth Work at bachelor’s level, delivered in partnership with Nottingham Trent University.

Alongside these roles, the council is actively seeking to fill positions for Youth Development Workers and Family Help Supervisors.

The decision to create the new positions received formal approval from members of the Executive Board during their meeting in May 2026.

The appointments form part of a broader investment package worth £7.6 million allocated to frontline services, with particular emphasis on assisting residents and communities facing economic pressures and enhancing the availability of support where it is most required.

The staffing expansion aims to strengthen youth provision throughout Nottingham, with the objective of ensuring that all young people in the city can access assistance at the earliest possible stage.

The initiative seeks to guarantee that provision is safe, of high quality and available to all who need it.

The council’s approach corresponds with the Government’s National Youth Strategy, which outlines a ten-year framework designed to address the difficulties encountered by young people.

According to Councillor Linda Woodings, who holds the portfolio for Children, Young People and Education, the degree-level apprenticeships represent a significant chance for individuals to establish fulfilling careers dedicated to enhancing the lives of young people while enabling them to influence their own destinies.

Youth Development Workers recruited through this programme will engage directly with children and adolescents, assisting them in navigating obstacles and achieving their capabilities.

These staff members will operate throughout Nottingham in youth centres, community facilities and through community-based outreach, establishing dependable connections with young people, facilitating group sessions and offering guidance to apprentices pursuing qualifications in youth work.

Sarah Nardone, Corporate Director for Children and Education Services, indicated that the council is seeking individuals from the local area who possess a genuine commitment to supporting young people within their own neighbourhoods and who are eager to learn and contribute positively.

Those interested in positions offering variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the futures of Nottingham’s young residents have been encouraged to apply.

The council is additionally recruiting Family Help Supervisors to strengthen its Family Help Adolescence service.

Candidates should hold an appropriate qualification or demonstrate relevant experience in a children’s services field, which may include youth work, education, health or social care.

Additionally, applicants need substantial experience working with children, young people and families managing complex requirements.
