Nottingham City Council has announced that free sanitary products will be distributed across 24 sites throughout the city following the allocation of supplementary funding.
Installation of the dispensing units commenced at the beginning of August, with the full rollout expected to finish by late September.
The products will be positioned within washroom facilities at the designated venues, available to both residents and visitors as required.
The scheme forms a component of a broader £7.6 million investment package directed toward essential services, aimed at assisting residents and local communities with living expenses while expanding availability of support in underserved areas.
Campaigners have long highlighted that inadequate access to menstrual products affects numerous women, girls, and those who experience periods.
Experts maintain that ensuring availability of appropriate products, coupled with clean facilities for their use, represents a fundamental requirement for maintaining dignity during menstruation.
Councillor Helen Kalsi, whose portfolio covers Adults, Social Care, and Public Health, expressed her satisfaction with the rollout.
She indicated that the programme should prove beneficial for those in Nottingham who require menstrual products, providing complimentary access across various council-owned premises.
She acknowledged that inadequate access to such necessities constitutes a genuine concern and affirmed the council’s commitment to addressing the issue.
The establishments included in the scheme span multiple categories.
Several administrative buildings feature in the list, alongside numerous library branches including Basford, Bilborough, Clifton, Dales, Meadows, Nottingham Central, Radford-Lenton, Sherwood, Southglade, Strelley, and Wollaton branches.
Community facilities such as St Ann’s Joint Service Centre, Wollaton Hall, Newstead Abbey, and Nottingham Castle are also participating.
The final group encompasses leisure facilities, namely Clifton, Djanogly, Harvey Hadden, Ken Martin, Southglade, and Victoria Leisure Centres.
