Gas main explosion forces Stapleford evacuations and road closures

Published on

A Nottinghamshire neighbourhood faced road blockages and resident displacements after a gas pipeline burst. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service deployed four crews to Tevery Close in Stapleford on Friday morning (April 17) in response to the ruptured gas main. Both Tevery Close and Copeland Avenue were shut to traffic, with emergency services urging people to avoid the area. A fire service statement indicated that appliances from Stapleford Fire Station and Stockhill Fire Station, together with personnel from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, were attending the incident on Tevery Close in Stapleford. The statement noted that the ruptured gas main had been identified and local residents were being relocated to safety as a precaution while the situation was managed. The public was asked to stay clear of the area until operations concluded. Stapleford Fire Station added that those living in the vicinity should follow the instructions given by the firefighters or police officers present at the scene. Four fire crews alongside an environmental protection unit were operating at the location. This update was part of a live blog.
