Residential plans revealed for historic Nottinghamshire maltings site

Published on

A former maltings building in a Nottinghamshire settlement could be converted into specialist residential housing. The double-storey establishment on Gateford Road in Worksop dates from the mid-1800s and once functioned as a malthouse but currently provides storage capacity. A planning submission to Bassetlaw District Council by Havenkaye Building Services Ltd seeks to redevelop the historic building for supported accommodation purposes. If councillors grant permission, the maltings would be altered to deliver five supported living flats, alongside a separate bungalow built on the site.

The submitted paperwork states the scheme intends to secure the long-term survival of a heritage structure while preserving its outward appearance unchanged. Every residence would include full amenities comprising distinct zones for sitting, resting, meal preparation and hygiene, with care assistance accessible to inhabitants whenever required.

Supported living configurations provide support for people with learning disabilities, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mental health conditions and physical disabilities, helping them develop and sustain self-sufficiency. The plans detail continuous assistance being available at the premises, delivered through an established and reputable care provider.

The submission explains the scheme represents substantial investment for the neighbourhood and meets identified need for quality supported housing. The project will breathe fresh purpose into a vacant commercial building while providing fresh housing choices for individuals requiring both secure accommodation and supportive services.

The maltings originally operated as part of the town’s brewing and malting trade, which made important contributions to the local economy throughout the nineteenth century. Papers confirm the middle and northern sections of the property currently stand empty. Havenkaye Energy Solutions is listed as the current tenant of the building. Bassetlaw District Council will assess the submission at a later session.
