A sketch shows extra seating will be added at a Birds Bakery branch as refurbishment gets underway. The Nottingham main store, positioned at the crossroads of Lister Gate and Castle Gate, closed its doors on Saturday, April 18 for the two-week overhaul. The venue, which first opened in 2019, marks the thirteenth branch to undergo improvements as part of a wider programme covering all sixty-two shops across the East Midlands.

The revamped space will display the company’s new spring green and teal colour palette, blending modern design with the bakery’s hundred-year heritage. Aimed at office workers and city centre visitors, the refreshed shop offers a fast-service counter alongside a larger eating area with additional furniture.

Previously, patrons had minimal seating, comprising only a few chairs positioned near a window overlooking the road. The new arrangement includes proper table setups. Guests can look forward to a range of sandwiches and salads, including options featuring chia seeds, alongside the bakery’s famous sausage rolls and barista-prepared coffees, all made with fresh ingredients from local suppliers.

The branch is scheduled to resume trading on Thursday, April 30. Jamie Bird, the company’s managing director, said the team is delighted to modernise the Lister Gate store, which serves as a vital hub for their Nottingham operations. The redesigned space was developed specifically with the city’s busy professionals and retail visitors in mind – people who want the quality and authentic taste customers expect from Birds, while needing the speed and ease of a contemporary fast-service format. Additional tables and seating have been fitted so customers can relax and savour their food. They look forward to greeting everyone in a stylish new environment that still embodies the Birds experience their regulars know and love.

The branch will continue offering its cakes and sweet treats through Uber Eats and Just Eat delivery services.
