Nottinghamshire business shut down by court after decades operating

Published on

A long-standing business based in Nottinghamshire has ceased operations following a court-mandated winding-up order. Nottingham Steel Supplies Limited, which operated from Private Road 2 on the Colwick Industrial Estate, was compelled to enter liquidation after Leeds’ Business and Property Courts granted the winding-up order on April 14. The petition that led to this order was filed on February 26 by UK Steel Stock Limited, a steel supplier based in Yorkshire. An official from the Government’s Insolvency Service has been appointed as receiver to oversee the company’s closure.

According to records held at Companies House, Nottingham Steel Supplies was established in 1992. The company, which has now been permanently shut down, focused on providing steel products and fabrication services across a wide range of applications, as detailed on its former website. The business had maintained a presence in the East Midlands and neighbouring regions for over three decades, the site stated.

Its operations included distributing products via an in-house sales team, enabling customers to pick up construction materials from a trade counter, and coordinating delivery services. Financial documents submitted to Companies House in July 2025 revealed that the company had an average workforce of 13 staff members throughout 2024. The preceding year saw an average of 14 employees on its books.

The 2024 financial statements showed Nottingham Steel Supplies held net assets valued at £55,939, a substantial decline compared to the £248,798 recorded twelve months earlier. Outstanding payments due to suppliers within the following twelve-month period rose to £127,030 in 2024, up from £116,619 in the previous year.
