A Gedling pub “wanted to bring some luck” to Nottingham Forest by offering £1 pints to punters for every goal scored – and hours later, the Reds secured a fantastic 5-0 away win.
The Gedling Inn, on Main Road, first ran a ‘free pint for every goal’ incentive to promote the screening of games back in February 2025.
But this ended up backfiring when the Reds thumped Brighton with a historic 7-0 win at the City Ground, meaning the boozer ended up footing the bill of around 300 pints of free beer and cider.
With Forest battling Premier League relegation peril, landlady Beccy Webster felt now was the right time to run a similar deal in the hopes of bringing the Reds some luck for their crucial away fixture against Sunderland.
“We have done the deal a few times since last February, and people still talk about it now,” Beccy explained the morning after Friday’s (April 24) away game at the Stadium of Light.
“Obviously, Forest haven’t been doing as good, so we thought weâd bring them some luck. People are struggling with money and pints arenât exactly cheap now.
“The pub was absolutely rammed and every table was full. People were joking before the match started saying ‘imagine if it was 6-0’ but most people were predicting it would be 2-0.”
Beccy explained the queues quickly started forming after Forest took the lead 17 minutes in due to an own goal from Sunderland’s Trai Hume.
Yet, the night really became a “whirlwind” when the Reds managed to secure an extraordinary three back-to-back-to-back goals in just six minutes, courtesy of Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus.
“I couldnât believe it and I didnât even see the third goal because people were just jumping and singing,” the landlady continued.
“It was a bit of a whirlwind. It was crazy and people were in shock. For the first goal, I’d say we did about 50 pints.
“But because the second, third and fourth goals went in so quickly, people were just in the atmosphere.”
Yet, when Elliot Anderson scored the Reds’ final goal of the night in added time, “everyone rushed to the bar”.
“They made the most of it on that last one, but we did restrict it to one per person, so it was fair,” Beccy added.
“Forest is a big family and itâs a bit of fun. You donât get that atmosphere very often, the world isnât in a great place at the minute so it’s just a way we can give back,” she added.
Forest’s jubilant 5-0 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light now means they are a huge step closer towards securing Premier League safety, currently sitting eight points above the drop zone after of Saturday’s fixtures (April 25).
