A family-run farm shop in Southwell has announced it will close after owners said theft had reached unsustainable levels. The New Holbeck Hut informed customers through social media that it would cease trading on 30 April following incidents where items were taken from its self-service checkout system, making the business unprofitable.

The owners shared an emotional post with followers on 27 April, thanking supporters while apologising to those who chose to damage a valued community resource. Their statement expressed regret about the closure date, explained that ongoing theft had made continuing impossible, thanked customers who had backed the trust-based retail concept, and said it was unfortunate that certain people had decided to undermine a helpful local service.

After the announcement went public, many shoppers responded with disappointment, with one person describing the situation as deeply upsetting and noting they had been shopping there for many years.

The store was located at New Holbeck Farm on Radley Road in Southwell and sold farm-fresh products including vegetables, poultry, and seafood.
