A joint police and fire investigation is under way after a Nottinghamshire business was left devastated by a fire

Pictures from Nottinghamshire Live’s photographer Joseph Raynor show the scale of damage at the MCP Carpets building in Retford, which was affected by a huge fire on Monday evening (April 28).

Seven fire engines were at the scene of the fire on Hospital Road at its height, with crews first arriving just before 9pm and remaining on the scene throughout much of Tuesday.

Nottinghamshire Police were at the scene initially on Monday to support fire crews as they dealt with the incident, but forensic investigators and a CSI vehicle were seen on Hospital Road on Tuesday as the cause of the fire is examined.

In its latest update on the incident at 2.30pm on Tuesday, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: “We are working with the electricity company and the local council to ensure the building is safe and to gain access to the rear of the property to extinguish the remaining fire.

“Any local residents affected by the continued smoke should keep their doors and windows closed.

“Hospital Road remains closed. However, residents can access their properties.”

Below are Nottinghamshire Live’s pictures showing the scale of the damage following the fire, as well as investigators working at the scene.
