A family-owned carpet business in Nottinghamshire has indicated it feels devastated after a substantial fire destroyed its premises. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service shared details of the emergency at approximately 8.50pm on Monday, April 27, with crews from eight stations called to the scene as the blaze grew worse. The flames engulfed the MCP Carpets building situated on Hospital Road near the Hallcroft Roundabout in Retford. Footage captured by the Retford-based PamphFly Drones company showed the fire at its most intense, with firefighters operating an aerial ladder platform to direct water at the burning structure. In comments issued at 4pm on Tuesday, April 28, the business stated it was devastated to report the fire at its premises. The company noted that as a family-run operation, this was extremely difficult, but expressed gratitude that all staff members were safe and uninjured. It thanked the local community, relatives, friends, and neighbouring businesses for their backing and messages during this challenging period. The statement requested that customers remain patient while they strived to resume trading.

Investigators have not yet established what triggered the fire. In their latest comments at 7.40pm on Tuesday, April 28, the fire service indicated personnel would remain at the site throughout the night, with one crew continuing to work as they awaited specialist equipment to safely address the flames, expected to arrive the following day. Residents in the area were urged to keep doors and windows shut if affected by smoke. Hospital Road stayed closed between Lime Tree Avenue and Hallcroft Roundabout.
