Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service issued an alert at approximately 20:55 on Monday, with firefighters from multiple stations tackling the incident at its height. The blaze tore through the MCP Carpets building at the crossroads of Hospital Road close to the Hallcroft Roundabout in Retford. Footage captured by Retford company PamphFly Drones showed the inferno at its worst, the structure engulfed in flames as crews used a high-reach appliance to spray water onto the fire. Officials have yet to establish what ignited the blaze, and in an update released at 06:00, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue confirmed crews were still dousing residual hotspots. Traffic has returned to normal on the Hallcroft Roundabout, though drivers should anticipate ongoing inconvenience as two engine crews and an aerial appliance will continue working on site for a considerable time longer. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue told Nottinghamshire Live that they were alerted at 20:41 on Monday, April 27, to a blaze at a commercial premises on Hospital Road in Retford. During the most intense phase, seven fire engines, a turntable ladder and a command vehicle were in attendance. At present, two crews are still present, carrying out damping down work, and Hospital Road remains shut. Several properties nearby were cleared as a precaution, though occupants have now gone back. There were no casualties, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is due to get underway later today.
