A key Nottingham road is set to reopen to motorists within a matter of days as a year-long enhancement scheme nears its conclusion. The heavily-used route will restore daytime and weekend bidirectional traffic movement from 6am on Saturday, May 2, linking the Priory and QMC interchanges. Night-time limitations will however persist to enable supplementary tasks including pavement resurfacing, National Highways has indicated. The extensive modernisation effort commenced in May 2025 and is scheduled for completion in June 2026.

A National Highways representative explained that teams must additionally test, examine and confirm that all aspects of the scheme are fitted correctly, operate as designed, and satisfy necessary safety and quality benchmarks. The newly created shared walkway and cycling lane will become available on a limited basis from Priory roundabout to Adams Hill. The full launch is anticipated alongside finalisation of the outstanding tasks in June 2026. Additional announcements concerning alterations to the road layout will be released as plans are confirmed.

The organisation also highlighted that the majority of Priory roundabout will be subject to closure from Monday, April 27 through to Friday, May 1, during evening hours between 8pm and 6am.

The improvement works got underway following official assessments that the A52 stretch between the Priory and QMC roundabouts had reached the conclusion of its serviceable life. The location had additionally seen multiple occurrences affecting walkers and cyclists. The scheme covers carriageway replacement, drainage upgrades, illumination enhancements and refreshed road markings.
