A bakery chain may move into a building previously occupied by a postal service in Sherwood. The company has submitted plans to establish a new outlet in the closed facility. The Post Office, located on Mansfield Road, shut its doors on March 5 after the postmaster stepped down. The closest alternative branch now sits more than half a mile away on Hucknall Road. In correspondence, regional change manager David Woodhead indicated that options were being examined to restore the service to local residents promptly. He stated that any future provision must remain viable for both the individual managing it and for Post Office Limited.

Greggs has filed a planning application to fit a fresh shopfront and add signage at the site. Local residents in Sherwood hold contrasting views about what the bakery chain might bring. One local remarked that such an announcement seemed underwhelming. Another critic noted concerns about increased street litter and the impact on independent traders during challenging economic times. A resident expressed worry that campaigning to preserve the Post Office was necessary, as many community members depend on it, describing the closure as a significant loss for the neighbourhood. The individual highlighted that Sherwood has already seen all its banks disappear, and the Post Office serves a crucial function in filling that void. According to this resident, shutting the branch would create substantial problems for local enterprises that use it for depositing daily or weekly income, while also having a disproportionate impact on older residents and others who rely on services like mailing items, obtaining cash, and handling essential financial matters.

Supporters of the proposal have also voiced their opinions. One contributor observed that contemporary high streets cannot thrive solely on independent businesses, suggesting the large premises might have been impractical for a smaller operator and that increased customer traffic could benefit the area. Another welcomed the development, expressing appreciation for having additional options and noting the appeal of the substantial unit with space for customers to sit inside.
