The circumstances surrounding the death of a man discovered critically injured at a residence in Nottinghamshire have been disclosed. The deceased, Anthony Beardsley, was 61 years old when emergency services located him at the dwelling on Mappleton Drive in Mansfield after a violent incident occurred on December 16 the previous year. Court proceedings regarding his passing commenced at Nottingham Coroner’s Court on Thursday, April 23, before coroner Amanda Bewley. During the brief session, Miss Bewley indicated that a post-mortem examination had been performed, with the preliminary cause of death recorded as the combined impact of cocaine and amphetamine alongside the physical and mental strain caused by a recent confrontation. Miss Bewley stated that in accordance with her legal obligations, she had initiated an inquest concerning the death of Anthony Beardsley. She added that the hearing would be adjourned while police inquiries continue and expressed her deepest sympathies to Mr Beardsley’s loved ones. A homicide inquiry was established following the assault, with Mr Beardsley transported to King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield where he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards. One individual was taken into custody on suspicion of murder before being released subject to stringent bail restrictions. Three additional men detained on suspicion of the same crime were also freed on bail under strict conditions. Detective Inspector Clare Gibson, leading the inquiry, previously commented that thoughts continued to be with Tony’s family and that specialist officers would keep providing them with assistance.
