Petrol and diesel prices continue to rise around the world and Nottinghamshire is no exception. The county’s cheapest petrol has risen by 18p since March 10, while the cheapest diesel on that day will now set you back an extra 34p. The surges are taking place as the US and Israel’s strikes on Iran continue, with retaliatory attacks launched across the Middle East. This caused the Strait of Hormuz – a gap between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula that around a fifth of the world’s oil exports go through – to effectively be blocked by the conflict. On March 10, 10 days after the war began, the cheapest petrol in Nottinghamshire could be found at Tesco on Swiney Way, Chilwell, for 129.9p. Today (Thursday, April 2), the same petrol station sells petrol for 147.9p – an 18p increase. Diesel drivers are even worse off, as the cheapest diesel on March 10 could be found at Tesco on Chesterfield Road, Mansfield , for 142.9p. The same station now sells diesel for 176.9p.
