Firefighters have warned it remains impossible to forecast when flames at a Nottinghamshire industrial site will be completely out, more than seven days after igniting. The Hathernware Industrial Estate, located in Sutton Bonington within the Rushcliffe district, burst into flames on April 15. Crews reported at the time that the inferno was consuming structures, transport vehicles, lumber and stored pallets. The conflagration was eventually contained later that same day, allowing personnel numbers to be scaled back, though the service has been obligated to keep round-the-clock teams at the location since that point. Firefighters continue to combat concealed pockets of flame buried within large stockpiles of refuse, with specialized equipment drafted in to dismantle the accumulated waste. As operations persist, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service released a statement on Wednesday, April 22, acknowledging uncertainty over when crews might depart the premises. Area Manager Matt Reavill from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service explained that responders have now sustained an uninterrupted 24-hour operation at the location for nine days. While the majority of the blaze has been doused, considerable difficulties persist because of entrenched hot spots that demand excavation machinery for safe access. Additionally, crews are attentively controlling the ecological consequences of their activities, notably because of a railway track running alongside the premises. Alongside continued fire suppression efforts, personnel from the service will keep liaising with local residents, offering comfort and guidance as necessary. Mr Reavill emphasised that the service fully recognises the ongoing disruption the situation continues to cause and remains dedicated to concluding operations as swiftly and securely as circumstances allow.
