The Nottingham Inquiry received a comprehensive chronology of Valdo Calocane’s activities prior to his attacks that resulted in six people’s deaths in June 2023. On the twelfth day of hearings on March 12, Nottinghamshire Police’s Superintendent Simon Allardice presented how surveillance footage captured Calocane’s journey by rail from London to Nottingham before boarding the tram toward Wilkinson Street. The inquiry heard that Calocane switched into completely dark attire and made his way to Ilkeston Road, positioning himself in a location without camera coverage. He fatally stabbed Barney Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar on the streets. Calocane then proceeded on foot to Mapperley Park where he attacked Ian Coates on Magdala Road and took his vehicle. He then traveled to the central area of Nottingham where he struck Wayne Birkett, Marcin Gawronski, and Sharon Miller with the vehicle. The inquiry examined communication breakdowns, with initial responding officers receiving limited details and being unaware initially that two victims had fallen on Ilkeston Road despite emergency calls being logged. Officers assumed the perpetrator was moving eastward toward the city center when his actual trajectory was northward toward Mapperley.
