Published on

Emergency services responded to a pedestrian collision in Nottingham’s city center on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a woman sustaining severe injuries.

The incident occurred on Friar Lane, near Old Market Square, at approximately 4:55pm on March 22. The woman was struck by a motor vehicle and required hospitalization for her serious injuries.

Police officers detained an 18-year-old male on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving. A second individual allegedly fled the scene shortly after the crash. Following the initial arrest, authorities took a 19-year-old man into custody on suspicion of dangerous driving and knife possession.

Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Martine Smith stated that detectives continue examining this upsetting occurrence and have now detained two individuals in connection with the case. She emphasized that the woman suffered serious injuries when hit by a car, and investigators’ thoughts remain with her during her recovery.

The detective noted that given the timing and central location of the collision, multiple members of the public likely witnessed the event. She urged anyone who observed what happened and has not yet come forward to contact police with any relevant information, including dashboard camera or CCTV recordings they may have captured.

Anyone with details can contact police at 101, referencing incident number 478 from March 22, 2026. Anonymous reporting is available through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

Following the crash, businesses along Friar Lane closed early as officers secured the area with tape. The road reopened by 6am on Monday, March 23.
