A pair of individuals were riding an uninsured motorbike lacking registration plates through an Arnold district of Nottinghamshire when they launched items such as canned drinks and a safety helmet toward police officers during their passage. Officers were on patrol duties in the locality on February 24 when they spotted the two men operating the vehicle. The motorcyclist was established as Lee Upton, with Connor Kennedy seated as pillion passenger. When the pair travelled past the police car, an item struck the windscreen, which led officers to give chase at around 7.45pm. The motorbike was driven carelessly at elevated speeds along residential streets in Arnold, with both a helmet and tinned beverages being flung toward the police vehicle during the short pursuit. Officers eventually discovered the motorbike in a car park and arrested Upton, who is 20 years old, after he bolted on foot. Kennedy, who is 24, was detained close to the motorbike, which police established had been taken three days earlier. A crowbar was additionally discovered beneath a car in the proximity, and searches uncovered that both men were carrying knives. Upton, whose address is Rathmines Close in Lenton, entered guilty verdicts to dangerous driving, failing to stop, possessing criminal property, being armed with a blade in a public area, and riding without appropriate licence or insurance. At Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on April 24, he was handed a 40-week prison term suspended for two years. The same court had earlier penalised Kennedy, also from Rathmines Close, with six months incarceration on February 26 after he admitted guilt to possessing a knife in a public place. Police Constable Amelia Robertson stated that the two men displayed considerable recklessness and peril while escaping from law enforcement. Their conduct was made worse by throwing objects at the officers in pursuit. The police staff concerned exhibited skill and professionalism in bringing the chase to a safe conclusion, taking both men into custody and confiscating not only the purloined motorbike but also two knives.
